The museum named after Giuseppe Andreassi, director of the archaeological area from 1976 to 1985 and superintendant for the archaeological heritage of Apulia from 1990 to 2009 rises on the outskirts of the surrounding wall of the ancient " Gnathia" in the  necropolis  Messapic  area. The new building inaugurated the 25th of  July 2013,is formed of 13 rooms, it starts with  the history of the archaeological research and enhancing the value of Egnazia and it goes back 30 centuries of history of the important settlement of the bronze and messapic era, roman city and episcopal site in the late Antiquity, through the exceptional riches of the exhibits and the illustrative system of the particular fascination. 
The museum is the exhibition site and also the office of the superintendence for the archaeological heritage in Puglia assigned to the control of the territory, rich buried evidence, as well the guardianship, the value and the disclosure of the archaeological heritage. In the building other than the management and the secretary's office, there is the restoration laboratory, the technical office, the library and the educational service.
